Nobel Prize Solidarity

Mo Yan, a Chinese writer of 57, born in the Shandong Province, has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature on Thursday 12 October.

He is the first Chinese to get the prize although, another writer, Gao Xingjian, born in China, got the prize in 2000 but he exiled himself and is now French.

Mo Yan's real name is Guan Moye. Mo Yan means "Don't speak". The Chinese communist government has congratulated the writer but his writer colleagues find him too close to the power and reproach him with not to  being involved enough in China's politics.

Mo Yan has written a number of novels, "Red Sorghum” being the best known. Most of them are situated in the countryside. However, some of them highlight some sensitive issues for the Chinese regime like forced abortion due to the one-child policy.

He told the media in Gaomi, his native village, that he would like his dissident compatriot 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Liu Xiabo to be released. He was jailed for "subversion" and serves an eleven-year sentence. He still has seven and a half years to do.

Solidarité entre Prix Nobel

Mo Yan, écrivain chinois de 57 ans, né dans le Shandong, a reçu le Prix Nobel de la Littérature ce jeudi 12 Octobre. Il est le premier Chinois à qui ce prix a été décerné, bien qu'un autre écrivain, Gao Xingjian, né en Chine, ait reçu ce prix en 2000 mais il s’était exilé et a maintenant la nationalité française.

Le vrai nom de Mo Yan est Guan Moye. Mo Yan signifie "Ne parle pas". Le gouvernement communiste chinois a félicité l'écrivain, mais ses confrères écrivains le trouvent trop proche du pouvoir et lui reprochent de ne pas assez s'impliquer dans la politique de la Chine.

Il a écrit de nombreux romans, le plus connu étant "Le Sorgho Rouge". La plupart se situent à la campagne mais certaines abordent des points sensibles du régime chinois comme l'avortement obligatoire dans le cadre de la politique de l'enfant unique.

A Gaomi , son village natal, Il a déclaré aux média, qu'il aimerait que son compatriote Liu Xiabo, Prix Nobel de la Paix 2010, soit libéré. Celui-ci a été emprisonné pour "subversion" et purge une peine de onze ans. Il a encore sept ans et demi à faire.
