The Robotaxis are coming

A Chinese startup wants to make the dream of many people come true with a totally autonomous car. Recently, AutoX, supported by Alibaba (BABA), announced that it was deploying driverless robotaxis on the roads of Shenzhen. This marks an important milestone in the history of the car industry.

Previously in China, autonomous shuttles existed but there were strict restrictions, which required to have a security driver inside. The new program is more innovative because there is no one else than passengers in the car.

AutoX boasts a local fleet of 25 cars which would operate mainly in downtown Shenzhen. An advertising campaign has been launched and a video showing a Fiat Chrysler Pacifica driving by itself in the city center has been published, it also shows that the car is quite operational for transporting people with their luggage or pets.

Une entreprise chinoise a pour ambition de réaliser le rêve de beaucoup de gens: une voiture totalement autonome. Récemment, AutoX, une startup soutenue par Alibaba (BABA), a annoncé qu'elle avait déployé des robotaxis sans conducteur sur les routes de Shenzhen.

Cette initiative marque une étape importante dans l’histoire de l’automobile. Auparavant, il existait déjà en Chine des navettes autonomes, mais il y avait des restrictions strictes, qui exigeaient la présence d’un chauffeur à l'intérieur pour des raisons de sécurité. Le nouveau projet est plus innovant car il n'y a personne d'autre que les passagers dans les voitures.

AutoX va disposer d'une flotte locale de 25 voitures qui fonctionnerait principalement dans le centre de Shenzhen. Une campagne de publicité a été lancée et une vidéo montrant une Fiat Chrysler Pacifica naviguant seule dans le centre-ville a été publiée. Celle-ci montre que la voiture est assez opérationnelle pour transporter des personnes avec leurs bagages ou des animaux domestiques.
