Two dead on the Vietnamese border

On Monday 19 January, Police shot dead two ethnic Uighurs in southern China as they tried to illegally cross the border into Vietnam.

The shooting occurred when police intercepted a van carrying five Uighur stowaways at a motorway tollbooth on Sunday evening near Pingxiang in the Guangxi region.

Two of the Uighurs violently resisted arrest and attacked police with knives before being killed. Two members of the group were detained and one fled.

Police had mounted a city-wide search for the man who fled.

News of the border violence came two days after police shot dead six Uighurs who were trying to detonate a bomb in Xinjians.

Lundi,  19 janvier, des policiers ont abattu deux Ouïghours dans le sud de la Chine alors qu'ils tentaient de franchir illégalement la frontière vietnamienne.

La fusillade s’est produite dimanche soir près de Pingxiang dans la région du Guangxi, quand la police a intercepté à un poste de péage une fourgonnette transportant cinq passagers clandestins ouïghours.

Deux d'entre eux auraient violemment résisté à leur arrestation et attaqué la police avec des couteaux avant d'être tués. Deux membres du groupe ont été arrêtés et l'un d’eux à réussi à s’enfuir. La police recherche cet homme dans toute la ville.

Cette nouvelles à été annoncée deux jours après que la police du Xinjiang eut abattu six Ouïghours qui tentaient de faire exploser une bombe.
