Secret prayers

The Communist Party imposes tight control on religion.
Today, two Catholic Churches exist in China; the Patriotic Church and the Underground Church. The patriotic church is official they read their own Bible and the cloth is directly nominated by the Communist Party. The church is hiding and its cloth is secretly nominated by the Vatican.

In an underground church, the worshippers pray as quickly as they can while hoping the police won’t arrest them. A priest explains that he didn’t have any interest in religion twenty years ago. Then he decided to become priest in the underground church. In this church, they hope for the day when they will be able to pray and see the sun all at once if the two Churches are reunited one day.

Prières secrètes

Aujourd’hui, il existe deux Eglises catholiques en Chine: l’église patriotique et l’église souterraine. L’église patriotique est officielle et le clergé est directement nommé par le Parti Communiste. Le parti impose des pratiques très strictes dans la religion
Le clergé de l’église souterraine est secrètement nommé par le Vatican et possède sa propre version de la Bible. L’église est appelée « souterraine » parce qu’elle se cache souvent dans les sous-sols.
Dans une des églises souterraines, les fidèles prient aussi vite qu’ils le peuvent en espérant que la police ne viendra pas les arrêter.
Un prêtre explique que 20 ans auparavant, il ne portait aucun intérêt envers la religion, mais qu’il avait décidé de devenir prêtre dans l’église souterraine. Les fidèles attendent le jour où ils pourront prier et regarder le soleil en même temps si un jour, les deux Eglises sont réunies.
