Meeting between Mr Bush and the Dalaï Lama

China has stepped up a row with the USA over its decision to award the Dalaï Lama one of its highest civilian honour Congress can give.
On Wednesday the dalai Lama met the USA President Georges Bush to receive his award. China protested after this meeting , denouncing a "rude interference in the Chinese interiors business".
In spite of Pekin warning about the meeting, on Tuesday, M. Bush had conversed with the spiritual leader Tibetan during half an hour, in an extremely private way in his apartments, indicated the White House.
The exiled Tibetan leader has lived in India since a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959.
To Pekin, Dalaï Lama who lived in exile since 1959 and received the Nobel Price of peace in 1989, is a dangerous supporter of independence in exile.
In an editorial published on last Wednesday, the official English daily newspaper China Daily says that " this event will certainly put a shadow on the relations" between China and the USA, two major powers of the world. " And the Americans will carry the responsibility", added the newspaper.
"The words and the acts of Dalaï Lama this last decades shows that he is a political refugee engaged in secessionist activities under the cover of religion", jugged Wednesday the Chinese spokesman."
President Bush called on China to open talks with the Buddhist figurehead, calling Dalaï Lama a "universal symbol of peace and tolerance".
